Toyota Exec Urged Company To Come Clean
The Detroit Free Press reported that almost a week before Toyota issued their multi-million car recall, public relations executive Irv Miller urged the company to come clean about the defects that were taking peoples' lives. "We are not protecting our customers by keeping this quiet. The time to hide on this one is over," Miller wrote in a Jan. 16 e-mail obtained by the Free Press. It is believed that other top Toyota execs wanted to downplay the problems until a they "clarified a real cause." Earlier this week, the federal government hit Toyota with a $16.4 million fine for failing to notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for hiding the problem.
