Firm Wrongly Fired Worker for Serving as Juror, Jury Finds
A Florida jury has awarded $150,000 to a former security guard who was fired for serving on a jury, the Miami Herald reports. According to the lawsuit, Miami security firm Hall Investigation Service refused to pay the worker for days missed during jury service and then fired her despite proof she had served on jury during the three days she missed work. The award includes $30,000 for lost wages and emotional distress, and $120,000 in punitive damages. David Ovalle, Miami Herald 12/09/2009
