BNSF to Pay Penalty for Cover Up
A Minnesota court has ordered Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. to pay a total of $25.6 million for covering up evidence in a train accident that killed four people. Judge Ellen Maas on Thursday added a $4 million penalty to a $21.6 million jury verdict for “egregious” conduct by BNSF. BNSF allegedly began a cover-up only minutes after the 2003 accident occurred.
